Spending today recovering from an AMAZING Saturday at Warped Tour in Auburn. We left right after Zach and the guys got off work/home from the bar, meaning that we were all running on no sleep. Even so, we had such an awesome day.
Started off the day sporting my fancy new shades at about 7am. Quick stop for a pesto bagel with some sundried tomato shmear (yum!) and we hit the road for a 3 hour drive. By the time we got inside most of the rain had let up, and the guys had time to see a few bands that they were into. We all shopped around a nd picked up some different merch (I'll share it with you soon), and got around to a few shows. The guys are all there for the metal bands - think Chelsea Grin, Attila (personal favorite), Vanna, etc. I expect to be the bag wench for at least 1/3 of the day while they're in the pit...love some of the music, but that's not my scene. After watching a guy come out yesterday with hamburger meat for a face, I'm even more thoroughly convinced that I'll stay happiest away from the circle pits.
Had a fun photo-op with the guys and earned a bunch of free warheads gear - candy, guitar picks, stickers, decals, and an awesome memory in still frame. The picture on the left was the second-to-last show of the night, which was also my favorite show of the day. Watsky, a 27yo slam poet/rapper had such great stage presence, and he is SO talented! I've never seen a rapper with a full backup band, including trumpets and an amazing accompaniment singer with an amazing set of lungs. He played a brand-new song for us as an encore (video below) and got the crowd so hyped - he was great. The last show we went to was Attila, who is most definitely my favorite metal band. They probably had the biggest, and loudest crowd I'd seen all day and it was awesome to be a part of the audience. It was a great two shows to end the night, and after a miles walk back to the car, a stop at Denny's and traffic that turned a 2.5 hour drive into a 6 hour trek we wound up at home in our own warm beds.
I would really encourage anyone who has interest in any of the bands at Warped to check out the tour. The crowd does seem to be getting younger as time goes on, but from a quick look at the crowd it's obvious that it's still popular from 16 to 60.
**Mini-rant : My biggest issue with these festivals it the cost of food and water. Last year, temperatures climbed above 100, and with powerade and water costing $6.50 and $3.00, the medic tent was overflowing with people that had heat stroke. You can't go back out to your car, and you can't bring water in. Seems a little harsh for people trying to go on the cheap, or people without money (which was me last year, when ALL the ATM's went down mid-day)
Watsky's new song is below - check it out!!
