So excited to share some of my new finds with you guys! I did a trade this past week and got a few products in exchange for my Naked 3 palette that I, surprisingly, wasn't too keen on. The shadows were too soft for me and didn't show up as pigmented as I would have liked, but the palettes that I have gotten in exchange I absolutely LOVE!
Today I'm sharing my Too Faced Smokey Eye Palette with you guys - this is my first palette review on this blog, but I have several more on the way(:

First - packaging. I love palettes in cardboard cases, because I have a habit of tossing my makeup around. This palette is definitely sturdy and well put together, but could survive a drop or two since it isn't made of such stiff packaging.
This palette is separated into 3 different looks - Day, Classic and Fashion smokey eye. Each look has a corresponding instruction card within the palette, with illustration and instruction on how to create the intended smokey eye with each set of shadows. I love this, because it means that anybody can enjoy and use this palette, even those who have never done smokey eye looks before! It also gives you a good range of colors, allowing you to do anything from a subtle look to a smoldering, bold eyeshadow. |
Swatches...
All swatches were taken without primer, and with a light swatch of the shadow. What you see on my hand is the color payoff you will get using a normal amount of shadow - didn't want to cake it on and make anything seem more pigmented than it is, though I will say the light shades look a little more translucent in the photos than in real life.
Daytime look: This 3-shadow pairing contains Firefly, Cloves and Up in Smoke. All three shades are different shades of brown, the darkest being the only shade that is anywhere near matte, though it still has a bit of a shimmery finish. I love these colors together and they're very easy to throw on for a quick, semi-subtle look. | Classic look: This look contains the shadows White Lie, Nice Ash and Smokin' Hot - this look is a grey-toned group, and this black shadow is the most matte out of the group in my opinion. The grey has a very subtle blue tinge to it, though this look is definitely a grey-scale group. | Fashion look: My favorite! I love the shadows in this group - In a Flash, Smoking Jacket and Smolder. The silver shadow is the most pigmented silver I think I've ever used, and I love the purple and blue toned shadows that go along with it. This look is definitely a bit more daring but totally possible to pull off without much work. |
My Overall Opinion:
This was a great introduction to Too Faced eyeshadows - I loooove this palette. The consistency of the shadows was exactly how I like it, and very similar to The Balm's Nude'Tude shadows in softness and pigmentation. They're very easy to blend and they have great staying power - they were very hard to wash off while doing swatches. I would recommend using a primer for better color payoff and staying power, especially with the lighter shades. I love that Too Faced also includes the different eyeshadow cards that show how to put the shadows on your lids, making it easier for less experienced makeup users to make their eyeshadow look how they want it to!
